Football in Faisalabad
Pakistan's industrial heartland is building its football record.
The Football Scene in Faisalabad
Faisalabad is Pakistan's third-largest city and its textile capital (the “Manchester of Pakistan” in the industrial sense). It is a city built on hard work and industrial culture, and its football scene reflects that: workers' leagues, factory teams, campus competitions at the University of Agriculture and NTU, and a growing network of futsal courts that have made 5-a-side the dominant format in the city over the past decade.
The city's layout (concentric industrial zones, large residential colonies, multiple university campuses) creates distinct football communities that rarely interact. The university circuit runs its own tournaments. The residential areas run neighbourhood leagues. The workers' teams compete in factory-sponsored events. Each has its own culture, and very little of it gets documented. Faisalabad's football is larger than its visibility suggests, and actively building its recorded presence.
