Football in Islamabad

Islamabad's grid of sectors has, behind the government buildings and the embassies, a rich and underreported football culture. Every sector has a ground. The F-sector pitches, the G-13 concrete courts, the parks in DHA that fill up on Thursday evenings: these are Pakistan's most organised grassroots football environments outside of Karachi.

The city's educated population and proximity to Rawalpindi have created a unique football scene that blends university culture with working-class neighbourhood leagues. 5-a-side and 7-a-side dominate because of the available facility infrastructure: indoor and outdoor futsal courts have grown steadily across the capital since 2015.
